On the surface, it might seem like there is no real reason to establish relationships with your neighbors, but actually, there are many advantagest to establishing and cultivating good relationships with those who live around you. When it comes to establishing good relationships with your neighbors, one of the biggest things is opening up honest lines of communication. It is easiest to open up these honest lines of communication if you do so the moment one or the other of you moves into the neighborhood, but it does not always happen like this. But you can still open up lines of communication with a neighbor if you have lived by them for years and have never spoken more than a few words to one another!

The best way for you to open honest lines of communication is to approach your neighbors from a standpoint of relationship. This means that - instead of simply going to your neighbor when it comes time for you to need help - you should aim to establish a friendly connection first. If you have a pool, this can be accomplished by inviting them over to swim; or, you could invite them over for a barbeque or for dinner. Once you have spent a bit of time with them, you will be able to cultivate the relationship in such a way that it is beneficial to you and to them.

It is key that you recognize that these relationships should be mutually beneficial. After all, no one will want to pitch in to help you if you are never pitching in to help them!

Establishing relationships with your neighbors can seem like more trouble than it is worth at times, but you will find in time that these relationships will certainly come in handy. And once your neighbors realize you are not out to "get something" from them, you will be able to establish relationships with even those neighbors who used to seem impossible to get along with!
