Thougths on Refinishing a Table.

The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
Do you have an old piece of wood furniture that you are just dying to make glow? There is nothing like a piece of wood furniture that is redone to bring back the life and luster of the wood. Wood furniture is wonderful and attractive and it doesn’t take much work to make an old scratched and battered table look like new again.

The first thing you will have to purchase is a sanding mouse to sand off the old finish. You will need various grit of both sand paper sheets and paper for the mouse sander possibly starting with as low as rough 80 grit paper. 50 and 80 grit paper are very course paper and should make short work of getting the old finish off. As you sand off the finish you will then progressivly move to a higher grit paper.  The higher the grit the finer the finish and the less scratches will be left on the unfinished wood. Plan on having to purchase sand paper sheets also in order get into places your sanding mouse is unable to reach.

Very fine steel wool will be your final sanding medium.  This completely takes the scratches out that the sand paper has left and removes the dust. The steel wool with give a very silky finish and remove any fine scratches left. Wipe off your wood piece with a soft lint free towel. Next is deciding what color of stain you wish to put onto your wood. Not everyone likes stain so this is completely a personal choice. After you have applied a stain you can then add a Finishing wax or a polishing wax. After this step you will really see the shine and life of your newly finished piece of wood. It is imortant to use a wax to protect the wood from water.

You will want to protect your lungs and eyes while doing this work, so wearing protective equiptment is very important.  A facemask and safetly glasses are a must. Stain should really be used in a well ventilated area and used with a chemical resistant glove. Ultimately it is very important to keep yourself safe when doing this or any project.
