The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
Being put in a position where you are going to have to give a speech is not uncommon, but because of the fact that most people have to give speeches so rarely, they never think about the steps they should take in order to write and prepare a speech. Regardless of whether you have won an award, have been asked to speak at an assembly, are the best man or maid of honor in a wedding, or are simply needing to put a few words together for a family gathering, there are a few simple rules you can keep in mind while preparing for this moment that will make things a whole lot easier on you! One mistake a lot of people make is that they sit down and try to start writing the speech, but they do so with no clear idea of what they want to say in the speech; the first thing you should do - before you write down anything specific - is come up with an idea of the general direction you want to take the speech, and the general things you want to say. After you have captured on paper an idea of what you are going to say in the speech, you can move onto the next step, which is putting these things into some semblance of order; work toward putting together an outline, so that by the time you finish this step, you will have a full outline that would give anyone a clear idea of what your speech is all about. And finally, it will be important that you practice your speech; but don't "fill in the blanks" from the outline by writing the speech word-by-word - rather, practice from the outline, as this will allow you to make the speech in a much more fluid and conversational manner! Of course, after this, there is still the step of actually giving the speech - which can be a frightening step if you are not comfortable speaking in front of large audiences - but as long as you have prepared properly, you should have no problem making the speech a success!
