Lots of people wish that they owned a smart dog. After all, a dumb dog can be a real pain! On the one hand, a dumb dog might go to the bathroom all over your house; on the other hand, a smart dog might learn how to open and close doors on its own. While a dumb dog can leave its toys all around the house, a smart dog can learn how to clean its toys up. And while a dumb dog might never even learn such simple commands as "sit," a smart dog can never cease to amaze you! But how do you get lucky and end up with a smart dog? Actually, all you have to do to end up with a smart dog is know the breeds that have the smartest dogs!

Number five on the list of "smartest breeds" is the Doberman Pinscher. While these dogs are thought of as menacing, they can actually be great family dogs as long as they are trained from an early age.

The Golden Retriever is the fourth smartest breed of dog. These dogs are beautiful and friendly as well as being intelligent; no wonder they are the most popular breed in the world!

German Shepherds are the third most intelligent breed of dogs. Because of thier use a police dogs, German Shepherds are sometimes thought of as menacing as well; but actually, it is because of their intelligence that they are used in this capacity.

The Poodle is the third smartest breed of dog. This is, of course, the standard Poodle - not the Toy Poodle; these dogs can even be trained to be great hunters and guard dogs, and they are extremely loyal.

Finally, the Border Collie is the smartest dog breed. The legendary intelligence of the Border Collie is more than just a myth; if you buy a Border Collie of your own, you will surely realize how intelligent they are!

One of the important things to realize about intelligent dogs is that their brain must remain exercised. This holds more and more true the smarter a dog is. In fact, if you do not "work out" a Border Collie's brain, they will start to become destructive to your yard! But if you have one of these dogs and keep it regularly engaged mentally, you are sure to enjoy the benefits of owning an intelligent pet. After all, no one ever complained about about an intelligent dog, wishing for them to be dumber!
