The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
Sometimes, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what movie you should watch when you have a lot of choices, or what book you want to purchase when you are browsing through the bookstore, or what new CD will make you happy to buy, and one of the reasons why it can be difficult to decide at times is because there are so many choices! And while there will be plenty of factors that will determine exactly what you will and will not enjoy when it comes to movies, books, and music, one of the easiest ways for you to break down your choices is to distinguish between Art and Entertainment - and before you can distinguish between the two, of course, you need to understand the difference! If you have ever wondered what the point of a movie is if it is not entertaining, you might also have found that you almost never agree with what critics say about different movies - and this can make it much easier for you to figure out which movies you are more likely to enjoy. While it might seem like there is not point to a movie if it is not entertaining, many people actually enjoy "art" movies - movies that are perhaps made on a lower budget, without special effects and chase scenes; movies that cause the viewer to think, and to explore issues that are greater than their own self. You will typically see these sorts of movies featured at film festivals and winning awards at the beginning of the year; the same thing goes for books, with some books (such as those by John Grisham or James Patterson) being considered "commercial fiction," while others are considered "literature," and the same goes for music, with the divide falling between pop (or "popular") music and many other forms. If you tend to appreciate art, there is a good chance you also are aware of this, and you know the sorts of movies, books, and music you will and will not enjoy; if, on the other hand, you are looking strictly for entertainment, be aware of the "purpose" of the movies, books, and music you are picking up - and realize that they will be far less likely to be pure entertainment if they are also created for art!
