The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
It can be a lot of pressure to pick a college major, especially because many people equate picking a college major with "picking a career," but when you are trying to decide what you want to study in college, you should be aware of the fact that you are really just taking steps in the direction of your future, without committing to any particular career or path; at the same time, however, the major you choose will have a bearing on your future, and for this reason, it is important that you understand how to pick a college major that will be right for you. Most people go into college without a clear idea of what they hope to do for a living, and they end up picking a major based on what sort of career they imagine they might enjoy; if you go into college uncertain about what you want your future to look like, however, you should not pick your major based on the career you think you might like to pursue, but instead, you should pick your major based on what you imagine you will enjoy studying, as this will put you in a position to excel in your studies and to gain a greater understanding of the career choices available to you. Starting with a double major, and cutting one major out of the picture as you gain a clearer picture of what you enjoy studying, is another course of action to consider; of course, if there is only one thing you can think of that you really want to study, there is no reason for you to not go with this area of study, but if you have been thinking of a number of different options, this is a great way for you to narrow down these options to the one for which you are best suited. And even though you might think it will be better to "go it alone" in trying to make these decisions that will directly affect your future, you should remind yourself that your parents and the college counselors with whom you speak have a lot of valuable information that they can share with you. Just because you listen to the advice of these people does not necessarily mean you have to take their advice - but you should certainly plan to listen with an open mind, as you just may discover that they are able to help you a great deal.
