The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
If you have gone through the process of picking out an engagement ring with your future wife (or with a friend or family member of hers who you trust to help you make the decision!) and have already made the down payment on it and ordered it, the last thing you will be thinking about when you pick up the ring at last will be all the "extra" stuff you should be keeping in mind. But even though the top thing on your mind at this point will probably be the proposal and the wedding planning that is soon to follow, you should make sure you are aware of a few important things for you to do on the day you pick up the ring as well. Of course, the most important thing for you to do is to make sure the diamond in the ring is real; more than likely, the place where you are buying the ring will demonstrate for you that the diamond is real by using a device that measures whether or not it is real; a good way to make sure the device is accurate is by bringing a fake diamond along and asking them to test this as well (and don't worry about them getting offended - most jewelers understand, as they have people do this all the time!). The second thing you will want to do is make sure they tell you about insurance on the ring; the jeweler where you are buying your ring probably has an insurance company that they recommend, and it will be smart to get all the information you can from them before you leave the store, including how much the insurance is likely to cost and what it will cover. And before you walk out the door, the jeweler's policy on cleaning your ring, on warranty, and on "mishaps" should all be fully explained to you; make sure that the jeweler will clean your ring at least once per year, make sure their warranty is complete, and make sure that things such as "small diamonds falling out" are covered under the warranty as well!
