The second thing you will want to do is make sure they tell you about insurance on the ring; the jeweler where you are buying your ring probably has an insurance company that they recommend, and it will be smart to get all the information you can from them before you leave the store, including how much the insurance is likely to cost and what it will cover.

And before you walk out the door, the jeweler's policy on cleaning your ring, on warranty, and on "mishaps" should all be fully explained to you; make sure that the jeweler will clean your ring at least once per year, make sure their warranty is complete, and make sure that things such as "small diamonds falling out" are covered under the warranty as well!
