The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
Just about every parent has a desire for their children to grow into intelligent and capable adults, but one of the things that some parents fail to realize is that you can help your children to become these things from an early age - and one of the best ways to help your children in this is to get them interested in reading; when your children read, they will be opening up their creativity, and will be exercising their mind - and when you read to your children from an early point, you will increase the chances of them enjoying reading themselves. One thing you should keep your eyes open for, when you are looking for books to read to your children, is series of books, as children will get absorbed in a story much more easily when there are more books than just the one they are reading - and when it comes to series that are great for children, there is very little that tops The Chronicles of Narnia; this series is easy for children to understand, is adventurous enough to hold their interest, and is good enough that you will enjoy reading it as well. Another series that is similar to The Chronicles of Narnia, but that runs a bit more along the lines of "sci fi" than along the lines of fantasy (and that is a bit simpler!) is the Wrinkle in Time books, but Madeline L'Engle; these books are not quite as swashbucklingly adventurous as The Chronicles of Narnia, but they are entertaining and highly enjoyable nonetheless. And if your children do not necessarily need blatant adventure in order to enjoy a book, you should consider the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Wilder; this series of books is perfect for children, as they will be able to learn about life the way it was when America was first opening up, while also having the chance to get caught up in an absorbing and fascinating series of stories.
The more often you read to your children, the greater their interest in reading will be - and when you are able to find series that are enjoyable for you to read and fun for your children to listen to, it will be that much easier for you to read to your children as often as you should.
