Acting Opportunities

The Relationship Cure: A 5 Step Guide to Strengthening Your Marriage, Family, and Friendships
Some people move to New York or Hollywood because they have a dream of making a living as an actor – either in television, in plays, or in movies – but there are many other people who have no interest in trying to make a career out of acting, but who nevertheless find that acting is something they get a great kick out of doing. When you were in school, there were probably plenty of immediate opportunities for acting – in such things as school or town productions – but once you become an adult, it can seem like the availability of acting opportunities “just for fun” are lacking, unless you know the right places to look!

Depending on where you live, there is a good chance that there are a couple local theater groups in your area; for the most part, you will find that some local theater groups take what they do more seriously than others, so if you have found more than one local theater group in your area, take some time to explore what each of them is about, and try to hook up with the one that you feel best suits you!

There will also be casting calls for everything from local productions to small roles in a TV show or movie every once in a while (and even if you live far away from Hollywood or New York, there might still be movies filmed in your area), so keep an eye out in the paper to find opportunities that might be fun for you!

And sometimes, the best way to satisfy your thirst for acting is to set something up on your own; whether it is an improv group in the park, a production put on by yourself, or just some actors practicing the craft in your living room, setting up acting opportunities of your own can be a great deal of fun.

If you get a kick out of acting, don't let the barriers to entry of Hollywood and New York keep you from having fun; keep these ideas in mind, and find an acting outlet that suits you!
